kind lady who took our picture was really trying but still managed to cut half the name off

What a welcome change of pace from big busy Mexico City to Puebla staying with the coolest couple around. Jazmin and Andres were the most generous hosts I’ve ever stayed with and a great start to couch surfing my way around the continent.

For those new to the concept of couchsurfing, it is one of the most popular sharing-economy websites, where people can offer up a roof over your head, whether it be a couch, a spare bed, a mattress. The exchange is a great way to see how a local lives and get off the beaten track from the normal hostel circuit.

I was very lucky that Jazmin is an amazing self employed jewellery designer so was able to take some time out of her schedule to show me around. And that she did through food, first is was sweet potato icecream, then mole poblano, then crickets, then cemitas, then mezcal. Finishing off the day with elotes which are the best street food snack. Corn on a stick with mayonnaise, lime and chilli, so yummmmmm.

Cemitas – massive sandwich with a whole avocado and so much stringy cheese

Jazmin had a bit of work to do the next day to she sent me on my way in a crowded colectivo (van) to Cholula, she said just stay on until the end and give the driver 5 pesos. And after drawing me a map showed me where I could get the best coffee for only 9 pesos (63 cents). Absolutely loving the local knowledge.

After some exploring I met back up with Jazmin for some cold refreshments and then back home for some traditional homemade mexican food. Was nice to just hang out and talk about our different countries and perspectives of each. They had a little dog called Ringo so we took him for a walk and then crashed out as had an early bus to Oaxaca in the morning.
